Just a few days after his shocking fall at home, Simon Cowell has revealed that low blood pressure was to blame for the accident.
As The Sun reports, Cowell, 58, was rushed to the hospital on Friday after fainting in his London mansion.
The America’s Got Talent judge later revealed that he had been grabbing a glass a warm milk because he couldn’t fall asleep after going out to see a Little Mix show.
Before making it downstairs, however, Cowell suddenly passed out and tumbled down the stairs.
While Cowell was quickly rushed to the hospital via ambulance after the incident, he said the fall was a huge wakeup call.
“Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock,” Cowell said. “They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out.”
“After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever,” he added.
Cowell revealed that he doesn’t really remember the accident itself, but he does remember being at the top of his stairs while walking down to grab some warm milk.
“I’d gone to get some hot milk because I felt ropey. On the way back upstairs, I just remember feeling really dizzy,” Cowell said. “Next thing I know someone was putting a neck brace on me and I had a terrible headache, which must have been from me hitting the stairs. I was worried at first that I’d done some real damage.”
“But I’m on the mend now. I know I was very lucky I didn’t hurt myself seriously,” he added. “It could have been a lot worse. I must say, everyone at the hospital were incredible. I’m truly grateful.”
About 10 hours after the shocking incident, Cowell was able to return home, though he will have to wait a few more days to go back to work.
“The medics told Simon it would be too quick for him to return to work 48 hours after a serious medical episode,” said one insider.
Fortunately, Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha was able to step in for Cowell while he continues to rest at home.
“Alesha was a natural stand-in. She’s well liked and knows what she’s doing,” the source said.
As for Cowell’s other show, The X-Factor, he’s been overjoyed by the news that Cheryl will be returning to the show.
“She’s so quick. We’ve had our ups and down but we have an amazing working relationship. We hope to feature Cheryl in another show we’re working on. We’re going to announce it soon,” he was recently quoted as saying.
Cowell also has “no idea” about Nicole Scherzinger’s future on the show after she revealed that she might not return.
“All I would say is the people on the show have got to want to be about the contestants, I’ve always said that,” Cowell said. “If you’ve got bad contestants you’ve got a bad show . . . great contestants, you’ve got a shot.”
