Sonya Eddy, 55, died in a general hospital from an infection contracted after a planned surgery.
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, 52, shared a heartbreaking photo of Sonya Eddy and called her a “creative angel” on Tuesday when she told the world about Sonya’s death.
Tyler Ford, her good friend, and partner in making movies told a source that she got a serious infection after surgery that wasn’t an emergency.
Sonya Eddy was released from the hospital on December 11 after her surgery. On December 15, she started feeling sick, so she went back to the hospital. On December 15, doctors found that she had an infection that could no longer be treated.
Sonya Eddy was put on life support on Monday, December 19, and she died that night.
On Tuesday, Octavia wrote to share the news:
My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her.
My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!

Since 2006, Sonya Eddy has been the head nurse, along with Epiphany Johnson, the mother of Stan Johnson, at General Hospital.
In her recurring role, she appeared in 543 episodes. She was a licensed vocational nurse, so the role was close to her heart.
Sonya Eddy was born in the California town of Concord. She got her B.A. in 1992 with a major in theater and dance from the University of California, Davis.
In 1990, she made her first appearance on stage in the play Zora Is My Name by Ruby Dee. She also appeared on stage in productions such as The Comedy of Errors and Bloody Mary in South Pacific.
Sonya Eddy moved to Los Angeles to advance her acting career. She has been on shows like Married… with Children, Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Joan of Arcadia, Those Who Can’t, Glee, 2 Broke Girls, and Fresh Off the Boat.
Frank Valentini, the Executive Producer of General Hospital, said this about the star:
I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her not only as an actress but as a friend.
The lights in the hub of the nurses’ station will now be a bit dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans. She will be very missed.
