The 143rd Westminster Dog Show wraps on the 12th of February. The Westminster Kennel Dog Club Show 2019 was held at Manhattan from 11th – 12th of February at the Madison Square Garden. We bring to you the highlights of the two day event so just sit back and scroll down.
143rd Westminster Dog Show
11th February, Monday marked the beginning of the main event of the 143rd Westminster Dog Show with the first round of the judging of the breeds. There were hundreds of pure breed dogs which were divided into seven groups based on the breed. The winners of each group advanced to the next level.
In the sporting group category of the 143rd Westminster Dog Show, the winner was an adorable Sussex Spaniel, Bean. There was also a fan favorite, a spunky Boxer named Wilma.
143rd Westminster Dog Show: The Drama
The 143rd Westminster Dog Show also had a bit of a drama in it. Colton, the Schipperke had won the group rounds in the competition. However, in the next round Colton was ruled out as ineligible to participate in the competition.
The audience roared with cheers to celebrate the victory of King in the 143rd Westminster Dog Show. During the announcement of the result on Tuesday evening, there were modest cheers. However, the supporters of other dogs shouted boos.
The favorites of the audience at the 143rd Westminster Dog Show were Bean, a Sussex Spaniel and Burns, the long haired Dachshund.
King, the wire fox terrier was crowned Champion in the Dog Show which is anything but a surprise.
Fox terriers have won 15 times in previous editions of Westminster Dog Show which is the most prestigious dog show in the nation. Scottish terriers on the other hand have won eight times.
Judge of 143rd Westminster Dog Show, Peter Green is known figure in the dog world. This is especially because of his work with the terriers. Seems like King, the wire fox terrier was wired for this win.
Gabriel Rangel, the handler of King says that it could not get any better.
