Even though Aquaman 2 release date is set for December 2023, we’re still hearing about reshoots happening when the DC Studios should be focusing on starting to promote the film. With just five months away from the release, a cast member of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom confirmed that they were still reshooting several scenes until a few weeks ago.
Aquaman 2 Reshoots Confirmed by Patrick Wilson
Even after multiple delays in release dates, Aquaman 2 seems to still be undergoing reshoots. Insidious famed actor Patrick Wilson who plays the role of Orm in Aquaman recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he was back on sets of the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom for some reshoots.
“There hasn’t been a day in the past four years that I haven’t thought about this movie. That’s the honest-to-God truth. Every day on the sets of these other movies, including Aquaman 2, I was reworking things and rewriting things.”
Wilson stated that he was at the sets of the Jason Momoa starrer movie just a week ago for his character Orm.
“Orm is awesome. I was with him last week.”
Earlier in February 2023, insider Robert Meyer Burnett had also stated that there were reshoots being done due to some “significant” changes in the plot. During a live stream on The John Campea Show, Burnett revealed-
“I have heard that they’re doing reshoots. They’re changing a significant plot point… Look, this movie, just like the first one, I’m sure, the potential for goofiness is there… A lot of people don’t dig that… There’s a lot of people where that’s not their thing. So, it might be a tonal issue. It might be something that it’s too fantasy for them. I just don’t buy it until we see the whole film. The problem is, people would rather report on something being bad than good.”
Is Amber Heard Being Replaced?
The controversial and popular lawsuit drama that took place a year ago involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has had a ray of domino effect on both their professional careers. With Amber Heard coming out of it looking like the villain, it is likely that DC Studios may not risk continuing their association with the actress. Heard who plays Mera in Aquaman has often been rumoured to be replaced, however, no official statements have been made.
With such delayed reshoots taking place for the highly-anticipated DCEU movie, it seems likely that the cast was back on set to reshoot the scenes involving Amber Heard‘s Mera character. Even though, Heard was confirmed to be a part of Aquaman 2 until April 2023, her future with DCU seems shaky.

With a series of failures of DC movies so far such as The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the studio’s success relies heavily on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Especially, since the first part was highly successful grossing over $1.148 billion.
