Microphone Malfunction Turns Controversial
At his recent performance at Los Angeles’ famed Crypto.com Arena, 50 Cent faced an unexpected technical glitch. Captured by fans and making rounds online, footage revealed the 48-year-old rapper disposing of not one, but two malfunctioning microphones during the event.
The first microphone was handed over to the “In da Club” artist while his fellow rapper, YG, graced the stage. Upon realizing the microphone’s defect, 50 Cent nonchalantly tossed it to the left of the platform. However, it was the second microphone, which also failed to project any sound, that grabbed the headlines. This time, the hip-hop luminary, Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent, hurled the mic with noticeable vigor, propelling it further back from the stage’s edge.
The aftermath of this seemingly impulsive action was immediate. The microphone allegedly made contact with POWER 106 radio host, Bryhana Monegain, as reported by TMZ. Disturbing images of Monegain soon emerged online, showcasing an open wound on her forehead. While speculations buzzed, an insider shared with PEOPLE that the incident was regrettable and occurred because someone was in an area where they weren’t supposed to be.
But as controversy swirled, 50 Cent’s attorney, Scott Leemon, was quick to step in. Addressing the situation, Leemon stated, “Let’s be very clear, as I told LAPD this afternoon, my client Curtis would never intentionally strike anyone with a microphone. Anyone saying something different doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.”
50 Cent’s ‘The Final Lap Tour’
Beyond the microphone incident, it’s important to highlight that 50 Cent is amid his “The Final Lap Tour”. This tour marks two decades since the release of his Grammy-nominated debut album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”. Starting its journey in Salt Lake City on July 21, fans across continents can look forward to its European segment, which kicks off on Sept. 28 in Amsterdam. The iconic rapper’s itinerary includes stops in renowned cities like Dublin, London, Mumbai, culminating in a grand finale in Auckland, New Zealand come Dec. 14.
Cardi B’s Past Stage Incident
While 50 Cent’s microphone episode is fresh in public memory, it recalls another recent event involving rapper Cardi B. During her show at Vegas’ Drai’s Beachclub on July 29, a spectator’s drink-throwing stunt received a microphone-flinging retaliation from the “Up” artist. Though Cardi B faced potential battery charges for her reaction, investigations later exonerated her, ruling out any criminal offense on her part.
