Matthew Ryan Phillippe, an American actor, rose to fame in the late 1990s after his role as Billy Douglas on the soap opera One Life to Live (1992-1993) and his first appearance in the film Crimson Tide (1995).
He gained recognition for his leading roles in popular movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), 54 (1998), Playing by Heart (1998), and Cruel Intentions (1999).
Phillippe was born and raised in New Castle, Delaware. Growing up, his mother Susan operated a daycare center out of their home while his father Richard Phillippe worked as a chemist.
Phillippe, who is of French heritage, has three sisters and completed his education at Barbizon in Wilmington, Delaware. He was also previously married to Reese Witherspoon.
