Lionsgate studio is planning a “Hunger Games” prequel based on a new novel by series author Suzanne Collins set. The upcoming novel is set to release next year. Lionsgate to release a prequel for The Hunger Games movie soon
Lionsgate is communicating the author and is looking forward to work closely with her for the movie. The novel is currently in the writing process. But there is no guarantee that the prequel would be a blockbuster just like the ones that preceded it. The four parts of the “Hunger Games” movies released one after another from 2012-2015. The movies were major hits and raked in a total of $3 billion from all over the world.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 was the costliest of them all with a production budget of $160 million. The first movie had a budget of $78 million and earned around $694 million globally. But things are not the same as they were back then.
The Hunger Games Prequel Movie is bound to fail
It is not easy for any non-Disney tentpole movie to become a major hit. Movies such as Men in Black: International and Dark Phoenix did not go as well as its previous movies.
Lately, it has been really easy for Disney movies to dominate each year. The Marvel Cinematic Universe also has tuned in well with the audience since the last part of Hunger Games came out. The best comparison could be Harry Potter. While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 made $1.3 billion, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them made only $800 million. Its sequel went down to $653 million.
Keeping in mind all this, it is all but given that The Hunger Games Prequel movie won’t be able to keep up with the success of its predecessors and fail miserably at the box office.
