Aaron Pierre was born on 7 June 1994 in Brixton, Greater London. He comes from a diverse background of Jamaican, Curaçaoan, and Sierra Leonean heritage. During his childhood, he was involved in athletics and sprinting, but as a teenager, he discovered a passion for acting.
After relocating, he became a member of the Croydon Young People’s Theatre (CRYPT) and later pursued Performing Arts at Lewisham College. He then received training in Toronto and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 2016.
Career
Aaron Pierre‘s acting career includes a role in 2 episodes of BBC One’s The A Word and a portrayal of Roman soldier Antonius in the first season of Sky Atlantic’s Britannia. Additionally, he took on the lead role of Dev-Em in the Syfy series Krypton in 2018.
That same year, Pierre took on the role of Cassio in Shakespeare’s Othello at the Globe Theatre. His portrayal earned him recognition with an Ian Charleson Award commendation. Later on, he acted as the King alongside Lenny Henry in the 2019 rendition of King Hedley II at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.
After watching Pierre’s performance in Othello, American director Barry Jenkins reached out to him and asked him to audition for his upcoming series.
Pierre successfully secured the role of Caesar in The Underground Railroad, which premiered on Amazon Prime in May 2021. In July of that same year, Pierre also appeared as Mid-Sized Sedan / Brendan in M. Night Shyamalan’s film Old.
In August 2021, it was announced that Pierre would reunite with Barry Jenkins to portray a young Mufasa in a Lion King movie.
