Al Roker hasn’t been on The Today Show since early November when he had a health scare and had to stay home. Since then, getting better has been slow and painful.
Al’s family from the Today Show decided to bring him a little Christmas cheer because they know what he’s been through and how much he means to people all over the country.
Al Roker’s heart just got three times bigger.
Because of problems caused by a blood clot in his leg, the mainstay of the Today Show has been noticeably absent from his work for the past few weeks. Al missed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for the first time in 27 years because of his health scare. He also missed the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center on November 30th. So it makes sense that his team wanted to bring him some holiday cheer.
Al Roker, Their Brightest Star.
Al Roker is home from the hospital and on the road to recovery — but he’s not quite ready to return to Studio 1A yet.
So, the entire TODAY family gathered on Al's doorstep to surprise him with some holiday cheer to help him feel merry and bright! 🌟 https://t.co/RxyjS8BpLr pic.twitter.com/dw8MJjfZBJ

Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones talked about how Christmas just isn’t the same without their brightest star while they were in the studio. Since Al couldn’t be there in person to celebrate, his friends and coworkers thought it was time to bring him a lot of Christmas cheer. Al’s TV family came out in droves to sing carols and wish their dear friend a very Merry Christmas. With a little help from Al’s wife Deborah, their special helper, they were able to do this.
The Surprise of a Lifetime.
As soon as Roker walked out of the front door of his home in New York City, his trademark smile turned into a river of tears.
Al joked to his crowd of supporters.
I just wanna thank you all so much. It’s been a long hard slog and I’ve missed you all so very much.
All of them went on to say how much the show of support meant to him and how thankful he was that his wife, Deborah, had stayed by his side through these tough times.
Their Final Song.
The Today Show crew told Al that they had one last song for him before they left. The group then started to sing a changed version of I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Bing Crosby. Instead of the word “I’ll,” they sang Al’s name. Al just stood there, dumbfounded. His face showed a heartwarming mix of joy, happiness, and surprise.
Al managed to choke out.
Al, we love you too. We all hope you feel better soon and can’t wait to see you in the new year.
