Alexandra Grant, who is Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend, has been honest about why she won’t dye her gray hair.
The 49-year-old artist and the 58-year-old actor made their first public appearance together in 2019. Before they started dating, they were reportedly close friends for many years.
Alexandra Grant is known for having a full head of gray hair, which a lot of people like, and she has said that she has no plans to dye it.
Four years ago, Alexandra Grant posted a screenshot of an article from Newsweek about a study that might have found a link between permanent hair colorants and chemical straightening treatments and breast cancer.
Alexandra Grant shared the screenshot with her followers with the following caption:
Today’s news… The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color.
I went gray prematurely in my early 20s… and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes anymore. In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde’
I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age,
Alexandra Grant continued.
But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!
Many of Alexandra Grant’s followers agreed with her and told her about similar things that had happened to them. One user wrote:
I’m about 1.5 months into my journey to simply embrace who I am. I started greying at 22. I am 37. Thanks for being nothing but yourself!
Another user wrote:
You have beautiful hair, Alexandra. I covered the gray roots of my dark brown hair for years, but finally stopped. Now snow white and very nice.
A third commented:
I saw this as well. Such a frightening thing to know that simply coloring your hair can create such a bad illness. I think your hair is absolutely beautiful! I wish I could pull that amazing color off.
You are a true inspiration for everyone who feels that they need to cover the grey and change to so many colors. Just be yourself is the message here.
And, a fourth remarked:
Wow! That’s really scary and something we should all think about before using chemicals. Thank you for sharing it.
It’s a person’s inner qualities that are most important and make them beautiful. Your hair is stunningly beautiful and you’re an inspiration for women that it’s ok to be natural and unique. Truly beautiful inside and out.
Many other famous people have also accepted their gray hair. For example, actress Andie MacDowell, whose gray hair started growing while she was in quarantine, talked to Glamour magazine about what the look means to her.
When I pulled it up in a bun, all you could see was the salt-and-pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver,
she said.
I like to compare myself to George Clooney because why not?
I’ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am,
she added.
