In what was characterized as a hostage scenario, the armed man had barricaded himself inside the Windsor Apartments, which are located on Macedonia Lake Drive at Tryon Village, with his 11-year-old son.
Business Insider said the tragic event resulted in the unnamed suspect’s suicide. The young victim, who fortunately escaped the gunshot wound, also suffered “minor” injuries to their arm and neck.
Immediately following the incident, Cary Police Chief Terry Sult released the following statement, which Business Insider was able to obtain: “I wanted to convey my condolences to the family of the person who was in distress today. Unfortunately, he committed suicide.
“It’s easy to focus on the loss today, but we should focus on the 11-year-old, and just be grateful that he is still with us and can return to his family,” he added.
