Before her infamous courtroom appearances and legal battles, Amber Heard had a steady career in Hollywood. She made her debut with minor roles in Friday Night Lights (2004) and North Country, eventually gaining recognition for her work in movies like Syrup, Drive Angry, The Joneses, and Never Back Down.
However, her recent prominence is not due to her successful role in Aquaman but rather her role in a less fortunate venture.
Amber Heard movie London Fields Scores 0% on Rotten Tomatoes
In 2018, Amber Heard took on the lead role of Nicola Six, a beautiful clairvoyant with a premonition of her own murder, in the film London Fields. The movie revolves around her relationships with three men, one of whom she believes will be her killer. Based on a novel by Martin Amis, London Fields aimed to be a modern noir film, but it fell far short of expectations.
London Fields faced a storm of criticism, reflected in its abysmal 0% Rotten Tomatoes score. Critics were merciless in their assessments, with Tim Stevens of Comicverse declaring it “Singularly ill-conceived” and “Gigantically rotten at its core.”
Jeanette Catsoulis of the New York Times simply described it as “horrendous” and a “trashy, tortured misfire.” Gary Goldstein from the LA Times reinforced the notion that not every successful novel should be turned into a movie.
The dismal reviews were just the beginning of London Fields’ problems. Despite an estimated budget of $8 million, the movie only managed to rake in a pitiful $487,420 at the box office. It was a financial disaster, leaving investors and producers reeling.
As if the critical and financial disappointment wasn’t enough, Amber Heard earned herself a Razzie nomination for worst actress in 2019. The Razzies, known as the “worst of the worst” awards, celebrate the least impressive performances in the film industry. While undoubtedly an honor she’d rather avoid, it further cemented London Fields’ place in infamy.
Other movies which have 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating
London Fields found itself in the company of other movies that share its fate of a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score. Among the infamous films are Staying Alive (1983), a misguided sequel to Saturday Night Fever, and Jaws: The Revenge (1987), the fourth installment in the Jaws franchise. Both movies fell flat critically and failed to win over audiences.
Amber Heard’s London Fields, Gotti (2018) starring John Travolta, and John Henry (2020) featuring Terry Crews, also found their way into this unfortunate club. These films serve as cautionary tales of how even talented actors and compelling stories can stumble on the big screen.
