Amber Heard, who plays Mera in the movie Aquaman, referred to herself in an opinion piece that she wrote in 2018 as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” This prompted Hollywood megastar Johnny Depp to sue his ex-wife for defamation. The case of Depp v. Heard has become a cultural phenomenon, with millions of people watching live streams of the testimony and results of the trial and wondering what the outcome of this case will mean for both parties in the future.
The recent conclusion of the defamation case saw the jury award, Depp, $15 million in compensation and punitive damages, while Heard was only awarded $2 million in damages.
Heard is currently slated to reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, for which she filmed the majority of her scenes in London during the fall of 2021. The movie will be released in theaters on December 21, 2022. After working with the actress for a second time under Warner Bros., co-star Dolph Lundgren recently came out in support of the actress, despite the fact that a lot of fans are on Depp’s side regarding the trial.
Following the conclusion of this trial, Heard might not have much longer left in her role as Mera, despite the fact that she received support from other cast members.
Amber Heard Is Possibly Going To Be Removed From The Aquaman 2 Cast.
Following a meeting between higher-ups at Warner Bros., Amber Heard’s scenes as Mera are expected to be cut from the upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, a reliable insider named KC Walsh has revealed this information. According to Walsh’s rumor, Mera might pass away during childbirth at the beginning of the sequel, but the results of the upcoming test screening will reveal more.
During the trial against Johnny Depp, Heard admitted that her role had already been reduced, despite the fact that she had starred in the original film as a leading character.
Will the Second Aquaman Movie Be Less Good Without Mera?
Mera, played by Amber Heard and appearing in the 2018 film Aquaman in the role of Jason Momoa’s on-screen love interest, received the most screen time of almost any character in the film. As Arthur Curry ascended to the throne of Atlantis, it became abundantly clear that the character would have a future in both the DC Extended Universe and the underwater franchise.
Fans of the series may find it difficult to adjust to her absence, especially if it is the result of an off-screen death that prevents her from appearing in the film in any capacity. According to reports, principal photography on the film was completed earlier this year; however, reshoots to finish off unfinished business are certainly a possibility with nearly a year left before the film is released.
If the information in this rumor is accurate, Warner Bros. believes that having Heard in the film could be detrimental to its overall box office performance because a significant portion of the general population did not support her during the trial. It is possible that removing her completely from the sequel will also prevent her from being mentioned in any marketing or press for the film.
In contrast to Ezra Miller, who plays the title role in The Flash and has been arrested multiple times in recent years, Amber Heard does not take the spotlight in Aquaman 2. It’s possible that WB will be compelled to move forward with Miller in The Flash because of the pivotal role they play, regardless of what they do; however, the circumstances surrounding Heard could completely change as the franchise moves forward.
The release date of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been set for March 17th, 2023.
