Google Pixel and Essential Phone
Since Google is one of the main force behind the development of Android OS and software updates, it will always be the first to get the latest Android. Google Pixel series phones at that time were the first to get Android 9 Pie update.
The newly launched Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL come with Android Pie pre-installed. Apart from that, Essential Phone (PH-1) made by Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android OS, was also the first to get Android 9 Pie update.
Samsung Galaxy Series
Samsung is currently at the top in terms of most number of smartphones sold, which make them the top contender to receive the latest Android update. The first Android Pie beta for Samsung Galaxy higher models was released just after two months of Android 9 release.
The first phones to get Android 9 Pie were Samsung Galaxy S9 and Note 9, followed by S8 series. The recently launched Galaxy S10 series and S10+ comes with pre-installed Android Pie while the rest of Samsung Galaxy devices will be updated in the upcoming few months.
OnePlus Series
The latest OnePlus series phones were among the first third-party devices to receive the Android 9 Pie update. OnePlus 6T was released with Android Pie as OS, while OnePlus 6 was also updated shortly. OnePlus 5 and 5T were the next to receive Pie update in December 2019.
Even the OnePlus 3 and 3T launched way back in 2016 started to receive Android 9 Pie update in the current month of May 2019. OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, the latest from the company are also running on Android Pie by default.
LG, Nokia, and Sony
While LG is a big name in the industry, there is sadly any new Android Pie updates in LG phones. The main reason is that LG uses a custom version of Android OS, which will take time. The only phone to get Android 9 is LG G7, that too in just South Korea. As per the reports, all the latest LG phones in the US will be updated to Android 9 Pie in the upcoming months.
Nokia started making Android phones at the very end when it realized that Android phones are the only way to stay relevant. Since then it is working hard, and Nokia 6, 6.1, 7, and 8 have been updated to Android Pie. Nokia has assured its users that the rest of the devices will also be updated soon.
Along with 11 other brands, Sony also took part in the early beta program for Android 9 Pie. Sony Xperia series was updated to Android Pie in November last year. Sony XA and XZ series are currently under the rollout process for Android Pie update.
Motorola Pie Update
Motorola was once the home of the latest Android OS, but with its downfall and takeover by Lenovo, it has lost its touch. The company has taken too long, and till now only 8 Moto series phones have been confirmed to get Android Pie updates. Moto Z3, Z3 Play, G6, and X4 are currently updated to Pie, while Z2 Force, Z3 Play, G6 Plus, and G6 Play are under the process. There are no official reports about other Motorola phones getting Android 9 Pie update.
Huawei Android Update
While Huawei with its Honor series is the second-biggest smartphone maker, it also uses a custom Android OS version. Also, due to US Huawei issue, Google has banned Huawei from using the latest Android OS and apps. Huawei P20 / P20 Plus, Huawei P10, Mate 10, Honor 8,9,10, and Huawei Mate 9 are the only phones to get Android Pie update.
Pie Update in other Phones
There are some other smartphones brands too, which although not much popular have received the Android Pie update. Xiaomi, Blackberry, Oppo, Vivo, Asus, ZTE, etc. are some of the less famous companies who have updated their flagship devices to Android 9 Pie. With reports of Android 10 Q, it will be interesting to know if any of the smartphones skip Android 9 and directly jumps to Android 10 update.
