Android Pie was announced on 7th March 2018. This week marks exactly one year since the new Android 9.0 Pie OS was announced. The update started rolling out in August 2018. Only a small percentage of Android smartphones are currently running this latest OS.
However, things are likely to change in the months to follow – as a number of manufacturers are going to release the upgrade.
Usually, when a new OS update comes out, the premium and flagship smartphones are among the first to get it. Now that most premium smartphones are updated to Android Pie, manufacturers are looking forward to updating their other devices as well! Let us take a closer look at when the Android 9.0 Pie OS update will come out for your Android smartphone:
Android Pie Update for Google Pixel
Google Pixel smartphones are always the first smartphones to get the new Android OS update. The Android 9.0 Pie OS update too, rolled out first for Google Pixel and then for other smartphones. All Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones currently run on Android Pie. These phones will also be the first ones to get the Android Q OS update in 2019. However, legacy devices such as Nexus series of phones will not get this update.
Samsung Android Pie Update
Samsung has started rolling out the Android 9.0 Pie OS update for its premium flagship smartphones. 2018-flagships Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ were the first smartphones to get this update. It was followed by Note 9 and Note 8. Samsung currently has a beta version out for Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones will run Android Pie OS out of the box! Same is expected for Note 10 later this year.
HTC Android Pie Update
HTC is all set to update its high-end smartphones to the latest version of the Android OS. Four smartphones which are definite to get the Android 9.0 Pie OS update are HTC U11, U11+, U11 Life and HTC U12+. However, the company has not provided an exact timeframe as to when these updates are expected.
Android Pie Update for LG Smartphones
LG, historically, has been quite slow when it comes to updating its smartphones to the latest version of Android. This is because the company usually likes to add a custom skin on top of the vanilla Android. The most infamous example of LG’s delays was LG V20 getting the Oreo update after 11 months!
LG’s G8 smartphone, its latest release – is going to come out running the Android 9.0 Pie OS update out of the box. However, older smartphones such as the LG G6 and LG G7, as well as the LG V20, LG V30, V35, V40 as well as certain phones of the Q-series and the K-series are also expected to be updated to Android Pie soon.
Android Pie Update for Essential Phones
Essential Phone users are almost at par with Google Pixel users when it comes to Android 9.0 Pie OS update. The phone got the update on the same day that Google released it. Essential Phone (PH-1) is created by the co-founder of Android Andy Rubin and the users, hence, get the best of the Android experience!
Nokia Android Pie Update
Nokia has already started rolling out the Android 9.0 Pie OS update to several of their smartphones. The company has rolled out the update for Nokia 6, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6 Plus, Nokia 7, Nokia 8 and some other models. Moreover, other phones such as Nokia 3, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 1 and Nokia 5 will also be getting the update in the months to follow!
OnePlus Android Pie Update
OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are already running the Android 9.0 Pie OS update. The company is currently working towards bringing even OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T on Android Pie OS. However, there is no confirmed release date as of now.
Android Pie Update for Motorola
Motorola has broken many hearts this time – as only a handful of their smartphones are getting the Android 9.0 Pie OS update. These phones include the Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play. New phones that release later this year are also likely to be running on the Android Pie OS.
