Tom Hiddleston (Thor) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars) will be starring in The Life of Chuck, a new Stephen King adaptation that is expected to be a hot package at the upcoming Cannes market.
Mike Flanagan, the director of Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House, is writing, directing, and producing the movie for Intrepid Pictures with fellow producer Trevor Macy.
International sales are to be handled by FilmNation, and domestic sales will be handled by WME Independent.
Based on the short story “If It Bleeds” from King’s 2020 anthology, “The Life of Chuck” comprises three separate stories that tell Charles Krantz’s life story backward, starting with his death at 39 from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a house that is claimed to be haunted.
The script was changed before the WGA strike, and work on it has been going on for a few months. Tom Hiddleston will play the lead role, and Hamill will play Albie.
The tone of the genre project will be like Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile, according to the production.
Golden Globe and Olivier winner Tom Hiddleston is best known for his roles in Thor, The Avengers, and The Night Manager, as well as for his stage roles in Betrayal and Hamlet, both of which were directed by Ken Branagh.
Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the early Star Wars movies. He also played the role again in the sequels, the second season of The Mandalorian, and the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. He appeared recently in Netflix’s Sandman. Later this year, he will be in Sony’s The Machine, as well as in Intrepid and Netflix’s House of Usher.
Stephen King, who is also known as “The King of Horror,” is one of the most popular authors of all time. Carrie, The Shining, Pet Sematary, It, Stand By Me, The Running Man, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile are all movies that are based on his books or short stories.
The Life of Chuck is the latest project that FilmNation is bringing to the Cannes market. The Invite, a comedy with Amy Adams and Paul Rudd; The Cooler, an action movie with Dave Bautista; and Voyagers, which stars Andrew Garfield, are also on the list.
Tom Hiddleston is represented by UTA (US), Hamilton Hodell (UK), and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Hamill is represented by Gersh and Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo. Flanagan, Macy, and Intrepid are all represented by WME, with VanderKloot Law handling Flanagan and Reder & Feig will be handling Macy.
