Game of Thrones theories have been always in and around the show forever. Starting from connecting dots from the past to observing even minute details from the show, we have it all. Game of Thrones Season 8 isn’t out till April. And till then let’s look at some of the most interesting Game of Thrones theories which might come true. Here, we have 13 best Game of Thrones theories that have become very popular.
Samwell Tarly is the Prince that was promised
In the book of The Song of Ice and Fire, a Prince called the Azor Ahai was promised. Azor Ahai had fought against the darkness with a powerful red sword called the Lightbringer. That was many years ago. Now that another war is approaching, the next Azor Ahai’s identity needs to be revealed.
According to the Game of Thrones theories, Samwell Tarly could be a secret Targaryen. He could be the child of Elia Martell and Rhaegar Targaryen (whose marriage was annulled). The child was taken away by Varys and given to one of the Targaryens’ allies, The Tarlys.
Melisandre will return with an army to save everyone
The Red Priestess Melisandre has done her share of crimes in the past seasons of Game of Thrones. In GoT season seven, she told Varys that she would be leaving for one of the free cities of Essos. In fact, she also told him that she will return to this strange country. Because she has to die here, just like him!
Melisandre, the Red Priestess, has played a very mysterious role till now. She serves the Lord of the Light, R’hllor. The largest Red temples for R’hllor are in Volantis. It’s the same place where Kinvara was shown in Game of Thrones Season 6. Kinvara had told Tyrion that Daenerys was the promised princess. The fact that Kinvara and Melisandre are both from Volantis and believe in Daenerys’ cause, they might team up. Also, in A Dance with the Dragons, Tyrion sees the army called the Fiery Hand which guards Volantis. Now that big an army will definitely be useful in an upcoming war. These Game of Thrones theories put Melisandre on the map to fulfill a major role.
Ned Stark is still alive and will return
Sounds crazy, right? But, apparently, there’s a lot of evidence that this might happen. Entertainment Weekly (EW) had written a report from sets of Game of Thrones Season 8 that they saw a few unexpected characters. Of course, Ned’s return in almost impossible. And a lot of people have died and come back to the show. To name a few, Jon Snow, Beric Dondarrion, The Hound, The Mountain. Even Catelyn Stark becomes Lady Stoneheart in the books. We all saw Ned’s severed head on the spear. But there is still a question if that was actually Ned Stark?
According to Game of Thrones theories, Ned Stark and Jaqen H’ghar (Faceless Men) were prisoners at the Red Keep at the same time. In the first season, Arya meets Jaqen when he is being taken away from the Red Keep. It seems weird that he was captured so easily. The next plausible reason would be that he was captured on purpose. Maybe, Varys paid Jaqen to replace Ned Stark with an imposter during the execution. Ned had to leave Westeros and stay in hiding.
Tyrion is a Targaryen
By the end of Game of Thrones Season 7, we come to know that Jon Snow is actually a Targaryen. Now there is a theory called the A+J = T. This means Aerys + Joanna = Tyrion. According to the books, the Mad King Aerys was obsessed with Tywin Lannister’s wife. A few Game of Thrones theories says that Aerys impregnated Joanna. Then she died while childbirth and that’s how Tyrion was born. The same happened with Jon and Dany’s mothers, remember? Also, Tywin always hated Tyrion and his final words to Tyrion were, “You are no son of mine.” Another bonus point which adds to the theory is that Tyrion got along with the dragons pretty well.
Tyrion will betray Daenerys
Well, this completely annuls the previous theory. But, many people believe that Tyrion and Cersei had an important conversation in the final episode of Game of Thrones Season 7. In the scene, Tyrion was convincing Cersei to work with Jon and Dany. suddenly, he noticed that Cersei was pregnant.
We don’t know what happened after that because the scene ends abruptly. So, according to Game of Thrones theories, Tyrion made a deal with Cersei during that gap. He assured Cersei that her unborn child would be Daenerys’ successor. (p.s: Dany can’t bear kids) This might also explain Tyrion’s grim look on the ship when he listens to Dany and Jon making love. Because if Daenerys has a baby, his plans would be compromised.
Arya will become Littlefinger
According to Game of Thrones theories, the news of Littlefinger’s death might not have reached Westeros. This becomes a favorable condition for Arya to go to King’s Landing and impersonate him. Because Baelish had a lot of influence in that place. And she can repeat the whole Frey slaughter fiasco. Littlefinger might not be wanted in King’s Landing right now, this can prove to be an advantage to kill people for Arya.
Bran is the Night King
This Game of Thrones theory has literally got onto my nerves now. But, fans really had some theories that Bran could actually be the Night King. Fans have been comparing both the characters’ clothing, photoshopping their faces, etc. Also, the man that the Children of the Forest turned into the first White Walker is believed to be a Stark. Actor Isaac Hempstead is quite impressed by these Game of Thrones theories but he says that this is a long shot.
Bran built the Wall
In the sixth season of Game of Thrones, Bran finally discovers that he is not just a mere spectator of the past. He can mold it too. (The Hodor episode) And a few mysterious past events have been having been linked to Bran’s actions. There have been Game of Thrones theories that said that Bran turned Aegon Targaryen into the Mad King. He was the one who ‘whispered’ mysterious things and hence he went mad. Maybe he was warning the king about the Army of the Dead. In the Westerosi history, every person named Bran is actually our Bran.
In the books, Bran’s grandmother would tell him the story of Brandon the Builder, who was said to have raised Winterfell and also the Wall. Bran never liked the story and assumed that one of the other Bran’s did. She would tell the story as if Bran Stark was any of the other Brans that she used to know. Catelyn told Bran that she was so old that every Bran is the same for her.
Brother vs Brother
This is kind of the main event that everybody waits for in a wrestling match. An epic duel between The Hound and The Mountain is imminent. In the final episode of Game of Thrones Season 7, The Hound tells the Mountain his zombie phase isn’t the end. The Game of Thrones theories of Cleganebowl have been there since the hatred between the two was established. Quick recap: During their childhood, The Mountain had shoved the Hound’s face in the fire for playing with his toys. This is obviously visible in the Hound’s face throughout.
According to this Game of Thrones theory, Jaime will kill Cersei
This is one of the most hyped Game of Thrones theories and it deserves to be so. Cersei is on her way to be the next Mad Queen. First, it was blowing up the Sept of Baelor and then her plans to backstab Jon and Dany. Jaime had been her ally for a long time but he has had it now. He finally leaves her to join the battle against the White Walkers. They might end up fighting each other and Jaime will kill her.
However, that’s not all. Cersei had gone to Maggy the Frog who was seer. She made a prophecy that all of Cersei’s children will die and she will be murdered. This was the Valonqar prophecy which meant that her brother would choke the life out of her. It could be Tyrion too, considering his bitter relationship with Cersei. But, Jaime would be the more likely one. Plus, he has a golden hand which should be enough to choke Cersei.
Jon or Daenerys is the Prince/Princess who was promised
The return of Azor Ahai is being awaited by many characters of Game of Thrones. He saved the people before and has to now, as well because of the impending doom. Melisandre initially believed that Stannis Baratheon would be the One. Well, that didn’t work out. Next, she thought Jon Snow would be the One. But, in season seven, the theory was modified a little. It was pointed out that the prophecy’s translation meant that there could be a promised Princess too. And the obvious choice here is Daenerys. Hence, this Game of Thrones theory put both Jon and Dany as contenders for the promised one.
This could all be Sam’s story
A few Game of Thrones theories also suggest that all the things that we have seen till now is Sam narrating/writing the story. This would, of course, be a great bummer. The theory says that after the war is over, Sam sits down to write the whole thing in his diary or something similar. Also, Archmaestars are known to document important events and keep them in libraries.
Game of Thrones theories suggest that The White Walkers are going to win
If you have been watching Game of Thrones religiously, you know what happens to our favourite characters. And these Game of Thrones theories aren’t entirely illogical. The Night King already has a huge army. And we are not even sure of what powers he has. In the season seven finale, Viserys turns into an ice dragon and takes down the entire Wall. If the Night King is capable of doing this much, what’s to say that they can’t win the battle.
Of course, in the end, all of these are just Game of Thrones theories. We have to wait for a few weeks more to find out if any of these Game of Thrones theories actually come true.
