While the audience score is yet to be included, many wonders why is 60+ score considered bad? The reason being the show has never received anything less than 80, and critics are not happy this time because of the following reasons.
No Major Twists
The sole reason that Black Mirror is famous for is the amazing life-shattering twists at the end, which makes us sit down and think about ourselves. All the episodes of season 5 were somewhat predictable and did not carry significant impact. There were a few twists, but it was not that effective as we expect from Black Mirror show.
More focus on Actors
Black Mirror feels so realistic at certain times that a viewer forgets that he is watching a Netflix series. It was missing in season 5 due to some famous faces in the episodes. Black Mirror season 5 episode starring Miley Cyrus was in trend, but her playing a pop star is the same thing. As for the other episode, whenever viewers look at Anthony Mackie or Andrew Scott, all they see is Falcon from Avengers and Moriarty from Sherlock.
The Bar is set very high
It seems like Black Mirror season 5 has lost its edge with time, and the writers are running out of ideas. The previous season has an 84% rating and the last interactive movie, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was a unique concept. Black Mirror has set a very high bar, and the season 5 seems not to reach it. It is not like Black Mirror Season 5 was bad, it is just that it was average. Maybe it changes when the audience rates it, as many time the general public and critics defer from each other.
