DC’s latest movie, Blue Beetle, hit theatres on August 18, 2023, and we’re eager to see the critics and fan reactions. The movie is expected to have a big opening weekend not just due to the famous comic but also the dominant Latinx cast. While the movie has finally made its way to the big screen, it is DC Universe’s first movie to feature mainly Latinx cast members. Earlier, MCU had released Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings which predominantly featured Asian cast members.

Blue Beetle Cast Members: Other TV/Movie Roles
1. Xolo Mariduena
Xolo Maridueña is the actor who portrays the Blue Beetle and Jamie Reyes in the movie. At a young age, Maridueña has already built an impressive resume of film and TV appearances. He is most famous for his role as Miguel Diaz in the Netflix martial arts series, Cobra Kai, a regular kid living in the neighbourhood who is taken under the wing of an ex-karate champion. Earlier, Maridueña had also made guest appearances in such TV shows as Twin Peaks, Rush Hour, and Major Crimes. Playing the Blue Beetle is Maridueña’s first major studio production as the lead character.
2. Damian Alcazar
Damián Alcázar has had a long-standing career in Mexican cinema but is best known to English-speaking audiences for his role in Narcos as the brutal Columbian drug lord Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela, head of the Cali Cartel. His performance in the series has been applauded and he has also had a part in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in 2008. In the latest DC movie, he plays Alberto Reyes, the father of the titular character, who has a complex past in the source material.
3. Adriana Barraza
Adriana Barraza has already made her mark on the superhero film genre, as evidenced by her role in Thor as Isabela Alvarez, the coffee shop owner. In the movie, Barraza’s eatery is visited by significant characters, including Thor himself, and she is able to save herself during the destruction of her café by The Destroyer. She has also had starring roles in 2014’s Cake, featuring Jennifer Aniston, and 2019’s Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
In addition, Barraza has made guest appearances on ER and CSI: Miami, and a recurring role in the Showtime show, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. We will now see Barraza take on the role of Nana in Blue Beetle, another key member of Jamie’s family.
4. Elpidia Carrillo
Elpidia Carrillo has held many roles throughout her career, most notably in the action genre. She portrayed Anna in the 1987 movie Predator, where she was part of a rebel group against the Predator and showed her strength and determination. More recently, viewers may remember her from the popular teen drama Euphoria, playing Sonia Perez in season one. She plays the role of Jamie Reyes’ mother, Rocio Reyes in Blue Beetle.
5. Belissa Escobedo
Belissa Escobedo’s fame skyrocketed after her portrayal of Natalie Garcia in the musical romantic comedy series The Baker and the Beauty. Her performance of the young lesbian was an absolute delight and added a lot of levity to the show. Additionally, she stars as Milagros Reyes, the sibling of the protagonist, in Blue Beetle.
6. Susan Sarandon
The renowned Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon has enjoyed a celebrated six-decade career, gaining accolades for her roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Thelma and Louise, and The Witches of Eastwick. Sarandon’s acting awards include five Academy Award nominations, with her first Oscar award in 1996 for her performance in Dead Man Walking, where she stars alongside Sean Penn as a nun who befriends a death-row convict.
In Blue Beetle, she portrays the character of Victoria Kord, a businesswoman who is seen as the embodiment of imperialism. Sarandon has also made guest appearances on television shows such as The Simpsons, Friends, and Malcolm in the Middle.
7. Rauol Max Trujillo
Raoul Max Trujillo is an actor with a number of works to his name but is likely most well-known for his performance in the 2006 action-adventure Apocalypto, in which he portrays the main antagonist Zero Wolf. His captivating portrayal of a villainous figure destroying villages has left a lasting impression.
On the silver screen, Trujillo has also appeared in Cowboys and Aliens, Riddick, and both Sicario films. On television, he has made appearances in True Blood, Da Vinci’s Demons, and Mayans M.C. His talent for playing ruthless characters makes his latest role as Indestructible Man in Blue Beetle, an evil bodyguard to Surandon’s Victoria Kord.
8. George Lopez
George Lopez is renowned both as an actor and producer, and his next role is Uncle Rudy Reyes in Blue Beetle. His most famous work is George Lopez – the sitcom in which he plays a manufacturing plant manager living in Los Angeles. This show was a huge success, garnering a Primetime Emmy. His natural comedic talent is the perfect fit for the role of an embarrassing uncle in the DC movie. It isn’t the first time Lopez has been involved in a DC project, as he voiced himself in season 2 of the show Harley Quinn.
9. Bruna Marquezine
Bruna Marquezine takes on the role of Jaime’s love interest, Jenny Kord, who is also the niece of actress Susan Sarandon’s Victoria and the daughter of Ted Kord. The Brazilian star has only been featured in films and TV shows in her homeland until now, the most renowned of which being Deus Salve o Rei (or God Save The King).
In the medieval drama, similar to Game of Thrones, Marquezine portrays Catarina de Luton and focuses on her mission to expand the kingdom. Blue Beetle is her first chance in Hollywood, yet Marquezine has already acted in nearly ten films, making her very familiar with the silver screen.
10. Harvey Guillen
Harvey Guillén has made a name for himself playing the role of Guillermo de la Cruz in FX’s What We Do In The Shadows. His performance in the dark comedy has been widely praised for his comedic timing and dedication to the character. In Blue Beetle, Guillén portrays Dr Sanchez, a scientist who works for Victoria, portrayed by Susan Sarandon.
Other roles of his include Truth or Dare, Werewolves Within, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Strays, and providing voices for Archer, Harley Quinn, and Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, to name a few.
11. Becky G
Becky G rose to fame after she uploaded videos of herself performing renditions of hit songs on the internet. Since then, her music career has soared and she has released two albums. Now, she is set to embark on her first-ever headlining tour. She does not only have musical abilities, though, as she has been seen in various films in recent years.
Most notably, she was chosen to play Trini Kwan/the Yellow Ranger in the 2017 remake of Power Rangers. Another of her roles was that of Chloe, the protagonist of the animated film Gnome Alone. She also had a major part in the stoner comedy Good Mourning. To top it off, she voiced the character of Khaji-Da in Blue Beetle, a being that has control over the Scarab.
