Since they are a part of the Ten-tailed Beast, they desire to absorb unlimited chakra and evolve their consciousness. They still lack emotional thinking but have a strange sense of awareness.
Boruto Spoilers From Chapter 5: Who Are The Targets Of The Shinju?
The Boruto Spoilers from chapter 5 tell us that Shinju is already planning to attack the Konoha village. A grave threat is lurking around the village, and the people in utmost danger currently include Sarada Uchiha, Kawaki, Eida, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and Naruto Uzumaki himself.

Boruto Spoilers: How Do The Shinju Choose Their Targets
The Boruto Spoilers for Chapter 5 of Boruto suggest a strong reason behind the Shinju targets, and it will get interesting the more we progress into the story. The Shinju targets are based on the personal connection of the people they have bitten up. For instance, Hidari has chosen Sarada as his target. Sarada Uchiha is Sasuke’s daughter, which explicitly explains to us why Hidari had the intention to devour Sarada.
Matsuri, based on Moegi, has also targeted Konohamaru Sarutobi. Moegi and Konohamaru have known one another since childhood and have an emotional connection. While Shinju Bug has no specific relationship with Eida, it is known from previous chapters of Boruto Part 1 that he formed intense affection for her as an outcome of Amado’s research.
The most intriguing aspect comes from Jura, the Shinju leader who has a tremendous urge to consume Naruto. Many fans believe Jura is based on either Gara or Jigen. Jura’s eyes and hair are similar to Gara’s, while his overall appearance is closer to Jigen’s.
This also prompts the fans to consider how the Shinju evolved into Jigen’s look, even though he is no longer alive. Both theories, however, make sense, as Gara and Jigen have different but some connections with Naruto.
