Boruto has always been a contentious issue in the fandom, and for good reason. Mikio Ikemoto failed to captivate the fanbase that was previously so enthralled with the last series. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations did not fare as well monetarily as its predecessor. In an interview with Shonenjump, Ikemoto once revealed that he would like to keep the entire Naruto saga within 100 volumes and to do so, he had to keep his Boruto series fewer than 30 volumes. While the Naruto series had 700 chapters collected in 72 volumes, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga had just 82 chapters compiled in 18 volumes.
It is so because Boruto has always been a monthly shounen manga for the past seven years. That is also one of the reasons why Boruto manga has failed to capture the target audience since many do not want to wait for a month to get an update.
