Early Life
Adam Joseph Scherr was born in the US town of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, and attended Bandys High School. In school, he excelled in several sports including football, track, and wrestling. After graduating in 2001, he went on to attend a community college.
During the following four years, he was a member of the Hickory Hornets semi-professional football team while also holding jobs as a doorman and mechanic. Despite attending the NFL Scouting Combine in 2007, he was unable to secure a professional football position.
WWE Career
Adam started his journey as a strongman during the late 2000s. In 2011, he obtained his Strongman Corporation (ASC) Professional Card after winning the NAS US Amateur National Championship. The following year, he achieved another victory by winning the Arnold Amateur Strongman Championship.
As a result of this triumph, he was extended an offer to participate in the 2013 Arnold Strongman Classic. Additionally, he competed in the SCL North American Championships, securing a commendable 5th place. He also showcased his strength at the Giants Live Poland competition, earning a respectable 7th-place finish.
In early 2013, Adam Joseph Scherr signed an agreement with WWE and was sent to train at the WWE Performance Center in Florida. He then changed his stage name to Braun Strowman and officially started his career in December 2014 by defeating Chad Gable in his first professional match.
The following year, he faced off against an unknown wrestler in a dark match at a ‘Main Event’ taping, emerging victorious once more. By August 2015, he officially joined the roster and solidified his place in the Wyatt Family after competing against Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns.
On the 31st of August, his initial singles match was broadcast on Raw, where he won against Ambrose due to disqualification. The following month, he participated in his debut pay-per-view match at Night of Champions. In this six-man tag team match, he, Ambrose, and Jericho were once again defeated by the Wyatt Family.
In January 2016, Braun Strowman participated in the Royal Rumble and successfully eliminated five opponents. However, he was later eliminated by Brock Lesnar. After re-entering the match, he assisted the other members of the Wyatt Family in defeating and eliminating Lesnar.
In February, the Wyatt Family faced defeat at the Fastlane event against Big Show, Kane, and Ryback. However, they were able to claim victory in a rematch the following night.
The Wyatt Family was supposed to go up against The League of Nations on May 1st, 2016 at Payback. Unfortunately, Wyatt got injured and the match had to be called off. In July, they started a rivalry with the WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day, and managed to beat them in a six-man tag team match.
During Wrestlemania 34, he was presented with an opportunity to compete for the Raw Tag Team Championship, as long as he could secure a partner.
He opted for a young audience member named Nicholas to be his teammate, and together they emerged victorious over Cesaro and Sheamus. This achievement granted Nicholas the title of youngest champion in WWE’s history.
In April 2018, Braun Strowman participated in the Greatest Royal Rumble event and emerged as the champion with a record-breaking 13 eliminations.
At WrestleMania 36, Braun Strowman won the Universal Championship by defeating Goldberg. Roman Reigns was meant to face Goldberg, but he didn’t. Strowman lost the title to Bray Wyatt after 140 days. Later, he was drafted to RAW.
He had a feud with Shane McMahon before leaving the company. He won against McMahon at WrestleMania in a steel cage match. He had chances to win the WWE and Universal Championship but failed. He was released from his contract in June.
Braun Strowman returned on RAW on September 5, 2022, interrupting a tag team match. He appeared on SmackDown the next day and attacked four tag teams.
Personal Life
At one point, Braun Strowman was romantically involved with fellow WWE wrestler Raquel Rodriguez. However, they eventually stopped following each other on social media and there have been no recent pictures of them together.
