The Maestro behind “Breaking Bad” Ventures into Science Fiction
Vince Gilligan, the creative genius behind AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and its captivating spin-off, “Better Call Saul“, is once again gracing the realm of entertainment, but this time with a sci-fi twist. Having honed his skills in iconic shows like Fox’s “The X-Files”, Gilligan is no stranger to the realm of the otherworldly.
The Emmy-nominated star from “Saul”, Rhea Seehorn, is set to shine in Gilligan’s new venture, a detail that has piqued the interest of many. In a candid chat with Variety, Gilligan dropped a few breadcrumbs about this highly anticipated project.
Writers Room Reopens: The Strike’s Aftermath
“When the strike hit, we were very close to the end of breaking the first season,” Gilligan remarked. “We’re going to go back and finish the second-to-last episode and then get to work on the last episode … We’re looking forward to getting back to work. We would have been shooting already if it weren’t for the strike. The strike was a sad necessity, and we’re all glad that it’s behind us.”
The recent WGA strike might have put a temporary halt to the progress of the series, but now that it’s over, the creative juices are flowing once more.
Albuquerque: A Familiar Landscape with a Sci-Fi Essence
While the show will be filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reminiscent of “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul”, it promises to delve deeper into the sci-fi realm, echoing his earlier works. Gilligan clarifies, however:
“I wouldn’t call this heavy science fiction, I would call it mild science fiction,”. “But it does have a sci-fi element to it, at its core. And there’s no crime, and no methamphetamine. It’s going to be fun and different … I know it’s a story that interests me, and Rhea will be playing a very different character than she played on Saul. The weird thing is that it takes place in Albuquerque, except it’s a whole different world. There’s no overlap that I can see.”
Teasing the Tale
Gilligan remains tight-lipped about the plot specifics but does provide an intriguing hint: the show takes place in “the world we live in,” yet it undergoes a sudden transformation.
“It changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different … and the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.”
Given the impressive legacies both Gilligan and Seehorn have established in the entertainment industry, it’s evident that their upcoming project will be nothing short of captivating. As fans await more details, the excitement is palpable. Only time will tell what twists and turns this dynamic duo will present to their audience.
