Few end-of-season honors are as prestigious as a selection to one of the three All-NBA Teams. This accolade not only signifies a player’s excellence over the season but also cements their place among the elite in the league. The 2023-24 season brought exciting changes to the All-NBA selection process, marking a new era in recognizing basketball talent.
Historic Changes in the 2023-24 All-NBA Selection Process
Since the 1988-89 season, the NBA has honored 15 players each year, divided into three teams: First, Second, and Third All-NBA Teams. Before this, only ten players were recognized. This season, however, introduced two significant changes that have reshaped the selection landscape.
For the first time, the All-NBA teams are positionless, allowing voters to select any combination of five players for each team. Additionally, a minimum games-played threshold has been established. Players must have played at least 20 minutes in 65 or more games to be eligible, with exceptions for season-ending injuries.
These changes aim to ensure that the most impactful and consistent players receive the recognition they deserve.

How Are All-NBA Teams Selected?
The All-NBA teams are chosen by a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. Each voter selects five players for each of the First, Second, and Third Teams, without regard to position. Points are awarded based on these selections: five points for First Team votes, three points for Second Team votes, and one point for Third Team votes.
In 2023-24, only 99 responses were counted, but the process remains the same, ensuring that the most deserving players are recognized for their achievements.
