A horrific crime unfolded on On November 13, 2022, in Moscow, Idaho. Four students – Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kernodle’s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20 – were found stabbed to death. Moreover, the attack was considered personal by the examining coroner. SIX weeks after the crime was reported, an arrest was finally made. The name of the suspect is Bryan Kohberger. He is a student of the neighboring Washington State University, Pullman. It’s a 15-minute drive from the crime location. All the victims ere from University of Idaho,
No information was made public during the investigation which sent the citizens into a state of frenzy. However, the Moscow Police was working closely with the FBI. The latter was on Kohberger’s trail for almost a week. After the police had gathered enough evidence for probable cause, the arrest was made. Pennsylvania State Police arrested Kohberger at around 3 am on Friday, December 30, from a residential community in Scranton. Moscow Police received about 20,000 tips through more than 9,025 emails, 4,575 phone calls, and 6,050 digital media submissions.
Bryan Kohberger arrested & accused of Idaho quadruple murder
Moscow Police Department Chief James Fry addressed the media after the arrest. He said, “These murders have shaken our community and no arrest will ever bring back these young students. However, we do believe justice will be found through the criminal process. We developed a clear picture over time. Be assured that the work is not done. This is just started.” But Moscow Police faced severe public backlash for not making any arrests.
The first remark that Kohberger made after the arrest was, “Anyone else arrested?” A source told the media, “Sometime right before Christmas we were zeroing in on him being in or going to Pennsylvania.” For two weeks the investigators were looking for a Hyundai White Elantra. At the time of the arrest, the same car – model and make – was found and towed for more clues. Kohberger’s DNA has also been matched to genetic material recovered at the off-campus house. Kohberger is charged with four counts of murder in the first degree, as well as felony burglary.
Bryan Kohberger has a court hearing on extradition on January 3, 2023. He is being held without bail, and he is being represented while in Pennsylvania by a public defender. Moscow resident Erin Staheli remembered the crime and said, “It’s just been very scary not knowing who’s out there. I had doubts that the killer would be caught because it’s been so long, you know.”
