Buju Banton completed his eight years sentence at the McRae Correctional institution and was released finally.
There is still no comment by the United States embassy located in Kingston as to the entertainer’s return to the country. Buju, earlier known as Mark Myrie, got arrested for the offence of drug trafficking on a flight from Spain for a cocaine deal in December 2009. Subsequently, he got convicted for drug trafficking in February 2011 and was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment.
Initially, he was to be released in February 2019, but later it got revised to 8 December 2018. Buju Banton made a statement regarding the purpose for his release and said that it was purely his music.
He said,
Having survived, I want to share the good news and strength of my music. I just want to continue making music, which I’ve devoted my life to. I look forward to the opportunity to say a personal thanks to my fans and everyone who supported me.
