Megha Thakur, a Canadian TikTok star who was only 21 years old, died tragically.
The social media influencer from Brampton, Ontario, was found dead on November 24, just a few days after she posted a cryptic message on Instagram.
Thakur has more than a million followers across all of her social media accounts. In 2019, she started posting videos on TikTok that were about body positivity and self-confidence. In the fall of 2021, she also studied computer science at Western University.
Just a few days before she died, Thakur posted a video from her November 18 trip to New York City with the caption:
YOU’RE in charge. Remember that.
Her parents shared the sad news that their daughter had died by posting a picture of Thakur’s funeral notice on her Instagram account. They wrote in the caption that she had died “suddenly and unexpectedly.”
It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022 in the early morning hours,
the caption started.
Megha was a confident and independent young woman. She will be dearly missed. She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey,
Thakur’s parents wrote in conclusion.
When word got out that she had died, many of her friends, fellow influencers, and fans wrote in the comments to say how sad they were.
My dearest Megha, this is absolutely devastating. Sending your family so much love. I’m so truly saddened by the loss of a creative genius,
make-up artist Stephanie Valentine wrote.
Journalist Daisy Maldonado added:
Megha knew how much of a force she was in the influencer space and how many women looked up to her, I told her all the time. we lost an angel too soon. I’m keeping you and your family in my thoughts.
One fan said this about Thakur’s positive attitude and desire to help people feel good about themselves:
