While there’s no dearth of information about Ted Bundy, very little is known of Carole Ann Boone, the serial killer’s wife. Bundy was convicted of killing more than 30 women in America and was sentenced to death row for his heinous crimes. However, his undying charm still managed to attract women somehow. Boone was smitten by Bundy despite his ongoing trial and the two even got married. But where is she now?
Carole Ann Boone & Ted Bundy’s Relationship
Boone had a teenage kid from her previous marriage when Bundy and her first met. They both met in 1974 while working for the Washington State Department of Emergency Services. Bundy was an active serial killer when the two met. He was assisting the department in the search for three missing women whom he had murdered. Boone was quite vulnerable and easy to manipulate for Bundy as she’d been recently divorced and was a single mother to his teenage son, James. Bundy was known for his charm and knew his way with women, and swooning Boone was no big deal for him.
Boone was completely unaware of Ted Bundy‘s criminal activities and had taken a liking for him. According to The Only Living Witness: The True Story of Serial Sex Killer Ted Bundy by Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth, Boone stated that she liked him. She said-
“I guess I was closer to him than other people at the agency. I liked Ted immediately. We hit it off well.”
“He struck me as being a rather shy person with a lot more going on under the surface than what was on the surface. He certainly was more dignified and restrained than the more certifiable types around the office.”
The two shared a strong connection and instead of drifting apart after Bundy was put on trial, they got romantically involved. Boone believed that Bundy was innocent and falsely accused of kidnapping, raping, and murdering young women. The two would exchange letters from prison and Boone also frequented the penitentiary to pay him a visit.
While Bundy was on trial, he proposed to Carole Ann Boone to marry him in court during a hearing. In 1979, Boone was asked to testify for Bundy as a character witness and Bundy asked her to marry him. As per Florida’s law, two individuals can get married in a courtroom in the presence of a judge.
Carole Ann Boone got pregnant with Ted Bundy’s child during one of her prison visits. The two had a daughter named Rose Bundy in October 1981 while Bundy was on death row. However, when Bundy confessed to his crimes to delay his death sentence. Boone could not believe that Bundy was actually a criminal. She ended up divorcing him in 1986 and did not visit him in prison thereafter. According to People, she also did not speak to him when he called her on the day of his death.
Where is Carole Ann Boone now?
After divorcing Bundy, Boone moved back to Washington from Florida with her two kids. Boone’s son, James was an adult by the time they moved back to Washington and Rose was still young. Boone kept her life low-key and tried to live her life away from the limelight. There were rumours that she changed her name and remarried.
However, there were reports that Carole Ann Boone died in a Washington State retirement home in 2018. Boone was 70 when she died and the cause of her death was reported to be septic shock. There isn’t much information about Carole Ann Boone and her family’s life. Her daughter Rose has strayed away from the media’s attention and leads a private life.
There have been many documentary movies and shows based on Ted Bundy’s life and his crimes in the past few years. Some of the most recent documentaries include Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer, and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
