Recent Projects
Catherine McNally recently debuted her latest project at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival. The biopic, centered on the life of Donald Trump, follows his rise in the New York real estate industry during the 1970s and 1980s, with the support of notorious lawyer Roy Cohn. The film, titled The Apprentice, premiered at the renowned event on May 20th.
In the Ali Abbasi-directed film, McNally portrays the character of Mary Anne Trump, the wife of Fred Trump (played by Martin Donovan) and mother of Donald Trump (played by Sebastian Stan) in a supporting role.
According to McNally, she collaborated with a dialect coach and studied recordings of Mary Trump to refine her Scottish accent and behaviors.
“All my scenes were with Sebastian and Martin. It was a quick prep process for me, as I was cast about 10 days before the first rehearsal.”
Catherine McNally’s most recent role was playing the mother of an extreme fighter in the Canadian independent film, Gentle Barbarians. The film was written, directed, produced, and starred by Amir Bageria and was shot right after she finished filming The Apprentice.
She described the filming process as “inspiring” and saw it as an opportunity to show her TFS students the work of young filmmakers and open their minds to the possibilities in the industry.
In addition, her portrayal of ‘Mrs. Antelucci’, a school principal in Disney‘s Out of My Mind, was just as motivating. The film follows Melody Brooks, a girl with cerebral palsy who uses a wheelchair and is unable to speak, as she navigates her way through sixth grade.
