IMDb is open to editing by anybody, however frequently actors or even studios will update the IMDb entries with the correct credits. As of halfway through filming, according to director Shawn Levy, Joel Adrian may have already done his part, which is assumed to be little because Channing Tatum as Gambit is most likely to be a cameo.
Channing Tatum As Gambit In ‘Deadpool 3’
In 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Tatum was first considered to play Gambit; however, he was unavailable at the time, and Taylor Kitsch was cast in his place. In May 2014, Tatum committed to be the lead in a Gambit movie after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, failed to launch a trilogy of X-Men Origins prequels.
Since Ryan Reynolds is reportedly bringing a lot of Fox-based Marvel characters back, including Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, and the whole OG cast of leads involved in X-Men (2000) along with several others, there is a high chance for him to tick the box of Tatum’s Gambit as well.
As many directors came and left the movie, including Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman, and Gore Verbinski, the project descended into hell. Tatum even expressed co-directing the movie alongside Reid Carolin shortly after Verbinski’s departure.
The Walt Disney Company officially acquired 21st Century Fox in March 2019. Approximately two weeks later, Disney officially canceled the Gambit movie.
Channing Tatum said in an interview in February 2022 that he was “traumatized” by what happened with Gambit, given the project was in development for so long and that it was nearing production right when it was canceled.
“I shut off my Marvel machine,” he said. “I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.”
It was a dream role for Tatum, who’d long been a fan of the crime fighting mutant, but the project fizzled out before production could get started. The film’s cancellation devastated Tatum to the point where he’s been unable to watch any Marvel movies ever since.
Who Is ‘Gambit’ In Marvel Comics?
In Marvel comics, Gambit, also known as, Remy LeBeau, first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #266 in 1990. Gambit is a mutant with the ability to manipulate and charge objects with explosive kinetic energy. He typically uses playing cards as his weapon of choice, charging them and throwing them with deadly accuracy. Gambit has a complex past as a thief and has been a member of the X-Men. He is known for his charming personality and romantic relationship with Rogue.
