The gunman who has allegedly killed a lot of people on Tuesday in France’s Strasbourg Christmas market is dead according to one of the prosecutors of Paris.
A manhunt on a large scale has been going on ever since the beginning of the shooting. In the attack that was led by Cherif Chekatt, nearly three people were killed and police also said that the attack has also injured several people.
Christophe Castaner, the Interior Minister of France, has shared the details of the attack on Twitter. Castaner also unfolded the happening of the incident. Police officers around 9 pm in the night have spotted a doubtful person on who fits the description of the suspect from the shooting that took place on Tuesday night on Rue du Lazaret.
Once the officers addressed to the suspect, he turned around and started firing at the authorities of the police department. After that, the police responded. A local police officer has said to The Associated Press that the suspect was armed with a knife and a pistol.
The National Police from the North has thanked the public for their cooperation that has helped him to find the wanted individual. Before the open fired took place in Strasbourg’s Christmas market back on Tuesday, Chekatt was heard yelling Allahu Akbar, according to the public prosecutor. Chekatt reportedly escaped the place via taxi.
The Intelligence Group of SITE that monitors the extremist activities that take place online said that Amaq the Islamic State group new agency has claimed that Chekatt is a soldier representing the group according to The Associated Press.
Meanwhile, police have detained a minimum of five people who are allegedly tied up to the mass shooter Chekatt during raids that took place on Tuesday morning.
Strasbourg is located around 310 miles from the east of Paris is located on the border it shares with Germany.
