Chengdu is a city which lies in the south-western province of the country with the largest population, China. The city is also home to the giant panda which has been teetered to extinction for decades, along with the largest building in the world and also the busiest international airport in the world.
The Chengdu Panda Base is the breeding place of most of the pandas which are found in zoos all around the world, which has also been the attraction place for more than 3.5 million tourists every year.
In order to obtain ideas for the “Panda Capital”, the government of China had recently organized an international competition and declared the winner, a global design firm Sasaki.
The plan of the winner is to construct three new development sites which comprises of a lakeside village along with a wildlife research center and a park which will be linked to public transit. The development would be to expand the panda base which will then become 110 times the area of the Disneyland.

The city is home to 18,000 giant pandas which it hopes to preserve and protect.
The pandas are known to give birth to twins at a time and the mother panda has to abandon one of the cubs in order to raise one and through the Wildlife Research Center, the government will thereby preserve all the offsprings born each year push the species away from the threat of extinction.

The plan is to build the village near the international airport and make it operational by 2030. According to the estimates, the panda park would attract more than 20 million people every year which would be much more when compared to the visitors of the Disneyland.
The winners of the international competition, Sasaki have-not yet disclosed the overall cost of the project with the government of the city.
