Chrissy Teigen disclosed on Thursday that her late son Jack actually passed away during a “life-saving abortion” as opposed to a miscarriage as she had previously disclosed.
“Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions,” Teigen said at Propper Daley’s “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” summit (via THR).
“It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn’t either without any medical intervention.”
The Cravings founder said she had excellent medical care and a wonderful support system but only recently realized she had an abortion. She and singer John Legend have a daughter named Luna and a son named Miles and are currently expecting a child.
“Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion,” Teigen, 36, said. “An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago.”
Prior to Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court, the former model claimed she “hadn’t made sense of it that way.” When Legend reminded her that she had been one of those who would have had to make difficult decisions, she had been feeling sorry for those people.
“I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn’t made sense of it that way,” Teigen shared. “I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage.
“And I became really frustrated that I didn’t, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion.”
At the end of September 2020, Teigen and Legend, both 43, revealed that they had miscarried their baby boy and shared a number of wrenching black-and-white images from the setting: their hospital room.
