In the Netflix show Dead to Me, Christina Applegate plays Jen Harding, a widow who has trouble telling the truth. Applegate, on the other hand, thinks that being honest is best, which is the opposite of what Jen thinks.
On Thursday night, Applegate told Twitter and the rest of the world that using walking sticks has become her “new normal” as she prepares to go back into public life. In the tweet, which is accompanied by a picture of a group of four personalized walking sticks, Applegate writes: “I have a very important ceremony coming up. This will be my first time out since [sic] diagnosed with MS.”
Applegate told the world about her diagnosis in August 2021, also through a tweet. She said that the journey had been strange but that she was “supported by people I know who have this condition.” Fans may not remember that Applegate made this announcement, so this information is being given to them. She added, “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it.”
I have a very important ceremony coming up. This will be my first time out since diagnosed with MS. Walking sticks are now part of my new normal. Thank you @neowalksticks for these beauties. Stay tuned to see which ones make the cut for a week of stuff. pic.twitter.com/O543p1G4vS

This tweet got a lot of supportive replies, including one from actress Selma Blair, who also has multiple sclerosis. “Loving you always. Always here. As are our kids. Beating us up with love,” she replied to Applegate’s tweet.

Multiple sclerosis, or MS, as it is more commonly known, is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. For each person who has the disease, it changes their daily life in different ways. Applegate has written a lot about her fight against multiple sclerosis on Twitter (MS). Even though the severity of her symptoms can change from day to day, she said that the year before her 50th birthday had been “a hard one.” She also told her followers to keep their heads up, even though she spent most of the day sleeping with hers on a pillow.
Selma Blair, who has known Applegate since she was a child, posted on Instagram in October 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In the post, she shared this information with the help of Allisa Swanson, who was the costume designer for the episode of Another Life on Netflix on which Blair worked. “I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken GPS. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.”
She went on to say that Sarah Michelle Gellar, another actress and one of her former co-stars, was a good friend to her. Cruel Intentions, which came out in 1999, was the first time they worked together. Now that the time has come again for her to help Applegate in the same way, it feels like everything is finally coming full circle.
Applegate might soon go to the red carpet premiere of the third and final season of the Netflix show Dead to Me, which was already mentioned. She uses different walking sticks all the time. Some of them have stickers on them that say “F.U.M.S.” Even though she probably has more walking sticks, which are also called “activator poles,” she uses the ones she has every day (you can take guess what the initialism stands for). In the end, Applegate decided in another tweet that the other options “may not be appropriate.” This is where the four handmade acrylic walking sticks from the company Neo Walk come in. One of them even has a long string of pearls where the hand strap should be.
Selma Blair has been a big fan of the cane as a fashion accessory trend for a long time. In an earlier interview with InStyle, she talked about the trend. “I was so happy because it meant I could wear my heels,” proving there’s no need to sacrifice form for function.
Even though there aren’t many things that can be said to be known, there is, however, one thing that can be said for sure. Applegate will have no trouble getting to wherever life takes her. She won’t let anyone or anything stand in her way.
