This beloved championship had last graced the ring in 2021, and its revival now has fans eagerly waiting for the action to unfold.
But the revelations didn’t end there.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: A Tribute Rekindled
Another major announcement that left the WWE universe both nostalgic and thrilled was the comeback of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. A tournament that holds a special place in the hearts of many, it was introduced as a tribute to “The American Dream,” Cody’s late father, after his demise in 2015.
“They can also anticipate the resurgence of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which was created in honor of his father, ‘The American Dream,’ in the wake of his death in 2015.”
This iconic tournament has seen many stalwarts lift the trophy over the years. The Creed Brothers, who clinched the title in 2022, Undisputed Era, who reigned supreme in 2018, and the dynamic duo of Samoa Joe & Finn Balor, who left an indelible mark by winning the first-ever tournament in 2015. Moreover, to celebrate the prowess of female wrestlers, a women’s version was also initiated in 2021.
The fierce Dakota Kai and Raquel Rodriguez emerged as the inaugural champions, while the formidable team of IYO SKY and Alba Fyre (previously known as Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray) bagged the title in 2022.
However, the exact timing of when the wrestling world will witness the commencement of the 2023 (or potentially 2024) tournaments remains shrouded in mystery.
