Daisy Ridley breaks silence on her return to the Star Wars franchise while promoting her upcoming Indie film “Sometimes I Think About Dying.”
Ridley is set to step in the shoes of Rey Skywalker once again in the new installment of Star Wars, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Steven Knight.
In a recent interview with Variety, Daisy Ridley revealed her excitement about working with Sharmeen Obaid and how she has finally grown up to handle complex situations.
Daisy Ridley Is Set To Reprise Her Role As Rey SkyWalker, Talks About The Potential Return Of The Old Characters
Apart from Star Wars, Daisy is notably known for her roles in Ophelia, Murder On The Orient Express, and voiceover for certain animated films, including Peter Rabbit and Studio Ghibli movie, Only Yesterday.
Star Wars was one of the turning points in her career, where she showcased a powerful impact with her character.
In the interview with Variety, Daisy was asked if she was excited to work on a film where Sharmeen is the first female director in the franchise.
Daisy retorted that the filmmaker had created an engaging tale therefore she was excited to participate in the movie!
The short answer is I don’t know. I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman. Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as shit. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, “OK, call me in five years.” But it’s worthwhile.
The new chapter of Star Wars will be set 15 years after The Rise Of Skywalker in the New Jedi Order era. Ridley, as mentioned earlier, has a basic idea of the film’s pitch and is already excited with the script, however, about the rest of the details, the cast and crew are tight-lipped.
Daisy’s response to being asked about her feelings about working in the film without her original co-stars was subtly hinting at the possibility of her previous co-stars returning, such as Oscar Isaac or John Boyega.
No, because I don’t know what is what or who is who [in the new movie]. So much has happened for me [since the Skywalker saga]. I feel like a grown-up now. When I first started, I was, like, 20. I was the youngest on set.
It took me the first two “Star Wars” films to feel worthy of being there. Now I’m in my 30s. The whole thing feels quite different. I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers, and hopefully, I’ve got better as a performer.
Daisy also talked about how she feels grown up through all these years. She started at 20 with the Star Wars franchise and required at least two movies to adjust to the franchise.
She has had bitter experiences with the fandom online, leading her to wipe off her social media existence. However, after all these years, she feels at home and has been welcomed by the Star Wars fans offline.
