On the mend! His sports agent, Rob Butler, said that Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is awake and talking to his family while they visit him at the hospital.
After the 24-year-old had a heart attack at the Bills game against Cincinnati on Monday night, there have been many other good news stories that are worth celebrating.
Just a few days ago, it looked like everything would go wrong in the end.
Damar Hamlin passed out in the first quarter of Monday’s game after making a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. The play was so hard that it knocked him out.
Damar Hamlin’s heartbeat was brought back by cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which was done by the medical staff on the scene before he was taken to the hospital.
After the investigation was done, it was found that Damar Hamlin had a cardiac arrest.
Several ideas have been put forward to try to figure out what happened to the 24-year-old, who was otherwise healthy and led to this event.
What we saw was a player who had a direct impact to the middle of his chest, and this is what we consider blunt trauma,
Dr. Merije T. Chukumerije, a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Beverly Hills, California, said.
“And Sports Is One Area That We See That Happen Often, but We Also See It in Everyday Life”
So, when someone has a sudden impact or blunt trauma to the chest, if it happens at a specific part of the cardiac cycle, then that can lead to a ventricular arrhythmia or an unstable heart arrhythmia, which can ultimately lead to sudden cardiac arrest and unfortunately sudden cardiac death.
Even though Damlin is young, the fact that he is still in good health is a big point in his favor.
His chances of living have gotten a lot better because of these two things. His heartbeat coming back before he was taken to the hospital was also a blessing. He was in very bad shape.
Since then, Damar Hamlin has improved a lot.
