Peggy McCay, the actress who played Caroline Brady for the famous soap Days of Our Lives, passed away this Sunday. She has played the role for more than three decades from 1983 – 2016. The actress died in her sleep due to natural causes.
The sad news was shared by Deidre Hall, McCay’s close friend and co-star, on Facebook.
Deidre Hall said,
Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us. She was a friend, an activist and a real scrapper!! I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend.
I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless.
And how she loved being “Caroline”!!
Peggy McCay even took a break of two years from the show when she was ill. She was about to turn 91 years on 3 November, but sadly she died before it. McCay graduated from Barnard College, New York and studied acting with Lee Strasburg.
In 1951, McCay got her first big break with a role in Love of Life and she played Vanessa Dale for four years. She played a lot of roles after that in primetime television show and movies. The soaps The Young Marrieds and General Hospital got really famous.
The role of Brady matriarch Caroline for Days of Our Lives made her very famous. After all, she played the role for a long period of three decades. She was nominated nine times for Emmys and finally got the award for The Trials of Rosie O’Neil in 1991. Further, apart from being a wonderful actress, McCay was an avid animal activist as well.
We are really sad to lose such a wonderful actress, but she will always stay alive in our hearts.
