Dear John Ending Explained
Savannah and John’s relationship comes to an end during Dear John when she sends him a letter announcing her engagement. We later find out that the man Savannah is engaged to be Tim, a dear friend of John. Tim also has a son named Allan. Savannah starts building her life with Tim and Allan and gives up her dream of setting up a camp for kids with special needs.
She soon learns that Tim is diagnosed with lymphoma and dedicates her life to looking after him. Savannah also informs John about Tim’s condition through a letter. After Tim passes away, Savannah spends her time looking after her stepson Allan.
John is also back from his deployment and has no major responsibilities. He notices Savannah sitting in a coffee shop and the two reunite. While the movie does not evidently show us that John and Savannah spend the rest of their lives together, it is understood that they will.
Even though Savannah married Tim, she still loved John. And John also never lost feelings for Savannah. It is indicated at the end of Dear John that the two will reunite and take care of Allan together. This will also give Savannah the chance to fulfil her dream of starting a camp for kids with special needs.
