Demi Lovato Reveals Deep Regret Over Near-Fatal Overdose, Eyes a Shift from Pop to Rock
Superstar Demi Lovato took to the airwaves on Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen Live on July 12th, opening up about her past struggles and near-fatal overdose in 2018. The candid conversation provided a deep dive into the emotional journey of the singer, who, despite the trauma, remains resilient and focused on her future.
“I wouldn’t change my path because I don’t have any regrets. You know, when I think about things, the closest thing that I get to a regret is when I overdosed,” Demi confessed.
Living with the Consequences
Despite the crippling repercussions of her overdose that persist to this day, including vision and hearing impairments, Lovato strongly believes in her life journey.
“That overdose caused me a lot of… it actually caused a disability. I have vision impairment and hearing impairment to this day,” the singer divulged.
The aftereffects of the incident include blind spots in her vision, rendering her unable to drive and serving as a daily reminder to stay on the right path. Despite the painful past and the lasting effects, Lovato maintains a positive mindset and refuses to let shame take over.
“I just think in a more positive mind space. And I’m not focusing on the shame at all because I know I have a lot of sympathy for where I was at at that time and the choices that I made,” Lovato asserted.
A Shift in Musical Direction
During the interview, Lovato also discussed her transition from pop to rock, describing it as a natural reflection of her current state of mind and an important part of her healing journey.
“I’ve just been really influenced by rock music. And it’s what I have fun performing live. Like, I don’t have fun dancing on stage anymore,” Lovato stated.
In her quest to discover what truly makes her happy, Lovato realized her love for rock music and the thrill it brings her. This discovery led her to revamp her music, resulting in a refreshing reinvention of her classics.
“When I started, I kind of, you know, I got sober and I was re-evaluating everything in my life, including my music. And I was like, what makes me happy?” Lovato said, sharing her thought process behind the shift in genre.
New Band, New Energy
Not only did Lovato’s music transition, but she also put together a brand new, all-girl band, adding an exciting new layer to her musical journey.
“I did get a new band. And it’s an all-girl band. I’m really proud of them and they’re fire,” Lovato announced proudly.
Although the multi-award-winning singer has been through the wringer, her resilience shines through. Lovato’s painful past experiences have profoundly shaped her present and future, leading her down a transformative path, both personally and musically.
As we continue to follow Lovato’s inspiring journey, we see an unbreakable spirit eager to share her life lessons. And it’s certain that her fans eagerly await her rock performances, rooting for their beloved star every step of the way.
