The Setting: A Medieval Castle in Destiny 2
In Destiny 2’s newest dungeon, Warlord’s Ruin, players embark on an epic journey through a medieval-style castle. This setting is a battleground against the Taken and Scorn, culminating in a showdown with the formidable Locus of Wailing Grief.
The Challenge: Locus Of Wailing Grief
After overcoming the initial hurdles and defeating Fikrul, players navigate the castle’s treacherous halls to face the second major encounter against a large Taken ogre and numerous enemies. The intensity here escalates, making it a true test of players’ skills and strategies.
Preparing for Battle
Before engaging in this encounter, players should note two critical elements in the arena:
- Shelter From The Storm: Near the rally flag and along the stone railing, burning torches offer shelter from the cold, a crucial element during the encounter.
- Burning Desire: In front of the rally flag and around the boss spawn area, large, unlit braziers are the key to initiating boss damage. The objective is to dunk flame orbs into these braziers.
Initiating the Encounter
To start, players shoot the floating black Taken orb. This action spawns the ogre boss and various Taken enemies, including formidable yellow bars on both arena sides. Clearing these enemies is the first step in the encounter.
Facing the Scorn Chieftains
After dealing with the Taken, Scorn enemies appear, highlighted by large yellow-bar chieftains. Defeating these minibosses is essential for progressing through the encounter.
Managing the Biting Cold
Killing these chieftains triggers capture points, similar to the first encounter, but also introduces a freezing cold that can be fatal. To cleanse this effect, players must move towards the lit-up torches. Capturing as many points as possible within the Imminent Wish timer is crucial.
The Process of Lighting the Braziers
Once the Imminent Wish timer expires, players receive fire charges corresponding to the number of captured points. These charges must be dunked into the braziers around the boss, marking the start of DPS phases. The goal is to light all four braziers, repeating the process until this is achieved.
The Damage Phase
With all braziers lit, the message “Your wish is granted, O vengeance mine” signals the start of DPS against the Locus of Wailing Grief. Players should position themselves by the lit braziers to stay warm while dealing damage. Each fire provides approximately 14 seconds of damage opportunity (Naeem’s Wish Empowerment), after which players must move to the next lit brazier.
Strategy for Defeating the Locus
The Locus, a slow-moving boss with a large critical hit point on his head, is susceptible to precision weapons like snipers and linear fusion rifles, particularly effective in Season of the Wish. Players should also consider the Well of Radiance for survivability and the Celestial Nighthawk for Hunters, leveraging its precision damage against the boss.
