Detective Pikachu has been making rounds on the box-office with the highest opening for a video game based movie. Sitting at $58 million, it’s just second to Avengers: Endgame and might take it over within the next week.
Given the huge success and fan liking, Detective Pikachu has become the best-reviewed video game movie of all time. Let us look at everything we know so far about it’s rumoured sequel.
Will there be a Detective Pikachu 2?
Legendary Pictures stated that Oren Uziel has been hired to write the script for the upcoming sequel. He is the same writer who worked for the recent Sonic the Hedgehog and Men in Black: International movies.
Plot and Cast Details
At this point, it is not sure what the plot of Detective Pikachu 2 could be, as it has no post-credits scene and a proper ending. There are some reports that it could be a spin-off exploring the world of Ryme city. Some other rumors claim it will be about Harry and Tim solving crimes together but as of now, nothing is confirmed.

One name we all know who will return to the sequel is Ryan Reynolds, as he is the major reason for the film’s popularity. Justice Smith will also return as Tim Goodman, along with Ikue Ōtani as Pikachu’s original adorable voice. Kathryn Newton as Lucy Stevens and Ken Watanabe as Detective Yoshida are also sure to make a comeback.
Trailer and Release Date
There are no poster, teaser, trailer, or any announcement video as of now. It is too early for any first look as Detective Pikachu took almost one and a half years to finish filming so we might have to wait another year or so for any updates. The earliest release date for Detective Pikachu sequel would be at the end of the year 2020 or in the middle of 2021.
