Dichen Lachman was born on February 22, 1982, in Kathmandu, Nepal. During the early 1990s, she relocated to Adelaide, Australia, with her family. Her father is of Australian descent, while her mother was born in India and is of Tibetan heritage.
After completing her time on the Australian TV show Neighbours in 2007, she relocated to Los Angeles. Before that, she had attended West Lakes Primary School, Gilles Street Primary School, Norwood Morialta High School, St Mary’s College in Adelaide, Annesley College, and the University of Adelaide.

In 2005, Dichen Lachman got the role of Katya Kinski on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She first filmed a commercial for Wanadoo in Australia and then showed it in the United Kingdom. Although she had auditioned for the character of Elle Robinson, the producers ultimately wrote the role of Katya specifically for her.
Lachman had a brief part in the movie Aquamarine and then moved on to film Aztec Rex in Hawaii after wrapping up her role as Aaren in Bled. During an interview with The Soap Show, Lachman shared that she had appeared on the BBC show Ready Steady Cook during a visit to England in late 2006.
