Dick Van Dyke, a well-known actor from Hollywood, will be a guest star on an episode of “Days of Our Lives” that will air on Peacock this fall. The 97-year-old “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” star will play “a mystery man with amnesia” in the long-running daytime soap. He will be seen along with Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn, who both play John Black.
Dick Van Dyke told Access Hollywood the following about how the character came to be:
Drake and I went to the same gym together. I used to kid him, ‘Say don’t you ever have any parts for old people? Come on, give me a part!’ And he took me seriously. He got me a part.
The actor also said that this will be the first time he has “played my 97-year-old self.” He said that he had only watched one episode of “Days of Our Lives” to get an idea of what the show was about and how long the characters had been “doing it.”

“We’ve said something exciting”
That’s about all the homework I could do was watch one and see how they did it. The other thing, you have to hold [a moment] because there’s this thing of music and we’ve said something exciting,
Dick Van Dyke said.
The first episode of “Days of Our Lives” aired in November 1965. It is set in Salem and tells the stories of the Brady, Horton, Carver, and DiMera families. The long-running soap opera moved from NBC to Peacock in 2022.
On April 19, the “Mary Poppins” star, who has more than 104,000 Instagram followers, posted a behind-the-scenes video of how his gnome costume for ‘The Masked Singer‘ was made. He dedicated the special post to his singing coach Amy Chapman, his helper Jimmy Staley, and “all the behind-the-scenes crew and artisans” who make the show so fun and creative. On February 15, Dick Van Dyke was the first person to be kicked out of the ninth season of Fox’s celebrity singing competition.
Dick Van Dyke was injured in an accident
Dyke’s latest post comes just a few weeks after he hit a gate in Malibu on March 15 when he lost control of his car and crashed into it. The actor was reportedly found bleeding from the mouth and nose in the driver’s seat of a 2018 Lexus LS 500. He told the police that his car skidded in the rain and he lost control of it, according to reports. Even though Dyke wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs, officials asked the Department of Motor Vehicles to take his driving retest.
