An internal document distributed by Apple to its Authorized Service Providers states that due to the storage of various repair parts needed for Apple watch Series 1 and the very first generation of Apple Watch repairs, they are being instructed to provide the Apple watch 2 as a substitute to the Apple Watch models which need repairs.

The company is reportedly running low on parts for 42mm models of the Apple Watch Series 1 and 1st-generation Apple Watch.

The internal document has absolute zero info on which models qualify for a replacement is it only the aluminum models, or if the replacement works for the stainless steel, gold and ceramic variants too.
There are 38mm variants of the Series 0 and Series 1 as well but are they facing the constraint of parts too that can’t be said.
The document was circulated to different countries including the United States. This also indicates that Genius Bar too would follow the same instructions.
