Does one need to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden before Boruto?
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the sequel to Naruto. The manga “Boruto” chronicles the adventures of Naruto and Hinata’s son, who resides in the leaf village while his father fulfills his lifelong ambition of becoming the Hokage. The manga also covers a lot of plot points that are left open in Naruto. The manga was adapted into an anime by Studio Pierrot.
Boruto is also the direct descendent of the Hyuga clan through his mother Hinata.
Most fans may find it overwhelming to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, which consist of 220 and 500 episodes, respectively. Put together with the current running Boruto that has 294 episodes and counting. The original Naruto boasts more than 1000 episodes and movies excluded.
Kawaki is adopted by Naruto in Boruto. Kawaki was the chosen vessel for Isshiki.
Boruto has its own world with a plot line that is not as similar to Naruto. Overall the anime and manga were able to portray the world it is in very convincingly. So the answer is no. One does not need to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden to watch Boruto. Enjoy watching what you feel like after all the new series started by Kishimoto is no lesser than its predecessor.
