Dolph Lundgren has come a long way since he fought Sylvester Stallone on screen and now is in a silent battle with cancer. The 65-year-old Swedish actor recently said that he has had cancer for the past 8 years. He talks about how he has started to value life more and how sorry he is for people around him.
In Rocky IV, Lundgren played the Russian boxer, Ivan Drage. He talked about the moment he was first told that he had a tumor in his kidney. Later, it was found that the tumor was cancerous and had spread to his spine, lungs, stomach, and kidney. He says that he got cancer because he took a lot of steroids at a young age.
Dolph Lundgren Speaks Up About His Cancer Diagnosis.
Dolph Lundgren discussed in “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” how the cancer was found for the first time in 2015.
[There was a] tumor in my kidney and they took it out in 2015 […] but then they did a biopsy and it was cancerous.
The big star, who has worked with Sylvester Stallone and other big names in Hollywood, was first told he had lung cancer in 2015. Later, the disease went into remission, but it came back in 2020. At the same time, doctors found many more tumors and told him that he only had two or three years left to live.
At that point it started to hit me that this is kinda something serious.
After starting systemic therapy, the Swedish actor later got diarrhea and lost a lot of weight. In the meantime, the tumor in his lung kept getting bigger until it was too big for surgery to remove.
Dolph Lundgren Feels Sorry For His Family
Even the strongest people can feel weak and helpless when they learn they have cancer. Dolph Lundgren, on the other hand, didn’t feel weak but rather disappointed. He said that he feels bad for the people around him, like his daughters Ida, 26, and Greta, 21, and his fiancee Emma Krokdal, 25.
You appreciate life a lot more. […] You just appreciate being lucky enough to be alive [and] every moment.
He also says that he has learned to appreciate life more than he did before and that he is optimistic even though things are hard right now.
Dolph Lundgren Blames Steroid Use For Cancer Diagnosis
Dolph Lundgren has been given an alternative way to treatment after getting a second opinion. He says that after three months of treatment, the tumors have started to get smaller. But he can’t stop thinking about how he used steroids early in his career and how they might have caused him to get cancer.
I don’t know if it has something to do with the cancer. Of course it struck me as it could have had something to do with it. I thought about it.
Well, whether or not Lundgren’s cancer was caused by steroids, we hope he gets better soon.
