Following a positive video she posted last month in which she can be seen enjoying the rain, Drew Barrymore has been accused of “disrespecting” Black creators on TikTok.
In a video posted on July 17 and featuring the 47-year-old Music and Lyrics actress, Barrymore exhorts her followers: “Whenever you can, go out into the rain. Do not miss the opportunity!”
Naturally, the video was well-received when she first shared it, with many people insisting that the actress should be “protected at all costs.”
The innocent clip, according to TikTok user @amushroomblackly, “dismiss[es] the limitations that black producers have set,” she told her own followers.
A severe message from @amushroomblackly, whose account is no longer active on the network, is sent to Barrymore.
The TikToker claims that Barrymore’s video mimics a trend whereby Black content creators would “frolic” outside.
Although the original video is no longer accessible, since it became popular, additional users have begun “duetting” it.
@amushroomblackly addresses the actress directly and states: “You and I both know you are capable of enjoying the rain, frolicking freely, without filming it and posting it to TikTok.”
She continued by stating that Barrymore “cosigned people who just go out of their way to disrespect and dismiss the boundaries that black creators have set.”
In any event, the TikTok creator’s video did not garner very positive feedback, and one individual expressed their displeasure on Twitter: “Frolicking in the rain is now racist.”

A fourth remarked: “I’m so utterly confused. Somebody, please explain to the connection between frolicking in the rain and black people? Are there historical atrocities committed against black people by a white person(s) frolicking in the rain? My questions are genuine.”

My questions are genuine.
