In order to support their 15-year-old daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown, Eddie Murphy has agreed to pay Spice Girl and ex-partner Mel B $35,000 per month in child support.
The 61-year-old comedian will now have to pay an extra $10,000 each month as a result. It happens two years after Melanie Brown, better known as Mel B, initially filed papers.
According to court records seen by The Daily Mail, the former couple settled on a new child support arrangement after Mel B, then 47, requested more money due to a “change in income” and asked for it.
Murphy is referred to as an “extraordinarily high earner” in the new agreement, which was agreed upon on August 17.
From last October through Angel’s 18th birthday, the payments must be made retroactively. He also consented to pay Brown’s $10,000 in legal expenses.
“The parties agree that Respondent (Murphy) is an ‘extraordinarily high earner’…” the court documents state. “The amount of child support set forth hereinbelow has been calculated based on the reasonable needs of the minor child…”
The filing continues: “Commencing October 1, 2021, as and for child support for the benefit of Angel, Respondent shall pay to Petitioner the sum of $35,000 per month. Child support shall be payable via wire transfer, and shall be due on the first calendar day of each month.”
However, Brown will be liable for “add-on” expenses such as health insurance, medical care, extracurricular activities, and educational costs for the teenage daughter she shares with Murphy.
The filing also states that since the arrangement is a “non-guideline child support order,” “a material change of circumstances” is not a prerequisite for modification.
In October 2020, Brown first submitted paperwork requesting more child support, claiming that a significant decline in her income had occurred.
“Until recently, Melanie has been fortunate in her career to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for herself and Angel,” the 2020 papers stated. “Unfortunately, Melanie’s income has dramatically reduced, such that she must consider modifying child support for the first time.”
On April 3, 2007, Murphy Brown’s 46th birthday, Mel B, who has two other daughters, welcomed Angel Iris Murphy Brown. The singer’s team announced on June 22, 2007, that a DNA test had proven Murphy was the child’s biological father.
Numerous reports claim that Murphy, who is now the father of ten children by five different women, initially resisted having anything to do with the child.
The Daddy Day Care star’s mother, Lillian Lynch, played a significant role in Angel’s reunion with her father in May 2017, according to Mel B, who addressed the situation in her 2018 autobiography. The father and daughter now have a close relationship.
