Ever since the introduction of Twitter in the world, the users have been asking for some sort of an edit button. Twitter has been here since 2006 and they still have not addressed this issue.
What does the Twitter CEO think about the edit button?
The Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, has indeed hinted on several occasions that they are looking into the possibility of an edit button. However, he is adamant that they need to get it right the first time. He also says that they need to get it right even while testing it. The users have been waiting for a long time and they still wait.
Twitter CEO explains how the edit button might work
In the interview with Joe Rogan, Jack stated that they are working on an edit button. He said that Twitter users will not be able to edit their tweets from the distant past. However, they might get a small window of 5 to 30 seconds. In this window, they can review their tweet before it goes online.
Jack said that they cannot hold the tweet from going online for long as it would kill the real-time conversational flow of a discussion.
Jack and his rest of the team in Twitter are also looking at the option of allowing a tweet to be edited after it has been posted. However, they will also include a button to see the original tweet if this ever becomes a reality.
This will help the people keep track of what the tweet originally meant. This will keep the users honest and not allow them to change the meaning of their tweet after it has reached a lot of people.
